What qualifies a film for inclusion in this database?
The term disturbing is terribly vague; For that reason, I've decided the actual attributes that qualify films here, in my eyes, are as follows:
- Films that received a notable degree of controversy upon release. This can come from rating and obscenity boards, reviewers, or online communities. Bonus if all three.
- Films that contain standout examples of extreme gore and violence.
- Films that delve into subject matter often not explored due to said subject matter being generally regarded as 'too much'. This includes but is not limited to: Incest, explicit sexual content, sexual abuse, torture, self harm, suicide,
- More obscure horror/gore films that may not necessarily be as extreme as other entries, but remain relevant due to their status as "unknown". This is also why a lot of trashy B-movies and Grindhouse films not qualified as 'disturbing' may end up getting entries.
